Econet EMP Stable 2.0 is live
Econet EMP Stable 2.0 is live. Our internal operations now run on a single employee management system, built into the Econet Org portal. Attendance, payroll records, customer follow-up and support all sit in one place, on the same login staff already use.
Attendance that can be relied on
Staff mark attendance from their phone. The system asks for the camera and the location only at the moment attendance is being marked, never on page load, and checks three things before it accepts a record.
A live face, not a photograph. The camera draws the facial landmark mesh as it tracks, and asks for a blink before it will accept anything. A printed photograph does not blink, which is the point.
A face that matches the one on file. The comparison happens on our server, not in the browser. The face template registered by an employee never leaves our infrastructure, and the similarity the server measured is stored against every record, so a weak match can be reviewed rather than hidden behind a tick.
A position precise enough to mean something. Phones report how accurate a location fix is. A reading good to only a few hundred metres cannot place someone at a site, so it is refused rather than quietly accepted. Distance from the office is recorded on every record.
The clock is open during office hours only, so a check out forgotten on the way home cannot be recorded at three in the morning and turn a working day into an eighteen hour one.
Field staff work differently
Our sales team spends its days at customer sites, so tying attendance to an office would be useless to them. Their position is recorded on every check in and visible to management, but distance from the office does not block them. The rule is set per role rather than applied to everyone.
Customers belong to someone
Every customer now has an employee who owns the relationship. That person sees their own book rather than the company's list, logs each call, email and visit against the customer, books meetings, and keeps follow-up tasks with due dates. Colleagues can be invited to a meeting and are told by email.
Management sees who was brought in and by whom, and can isolate the customers nobody owns — the ones that otherwise go quiet.
Support reaches the right desk
An enquiry now carries a category, and the category decides which team receives it. Sales and billing questions go to sales, careers to HR, technical questions to support. Enquiries from people who never created an account are included and marked as such, since those are the easiest to lose.
Payroll and paperwork
Salary slips and appointment letters are generated from the same employee record, on one letterhead carrying our registered details. An employee confirms their personal, statutory and bank details once; after that the record is fixed, because payroll and letters are produced from it and should not drift after they are issued. HR reopens it when something genuinely changes.

Why we built it ourselves
We build management systems for colleges, schools, hospitals and government departments. Running our own operations on the same kind of software keeps us honest about what it is like to use one every day — where the friction is, and which parts sound good in a specification but irritate people by the second week.
If you are weighing up a system for your organisation, we are happy to walk you through ours and what we learned building it.
